How did you get into motocross?
My dad gave my sisters and I an ATV when we were 7. He had friends with dirt bikes and that was all I ever talked about for a whole year. I wanted one so badly that it persuaded my mom and dad into getting me one. It wasn’t much longer that I ran into my living room for Christmas morning and saw a beautiful 2001 green Kawasaki 110. I thought that was the most amazing thing on earth. From then on, that’s all I wanted to do every day and weekend for as long as we could afford to fix our bikes.
How long have you been riding?
I started when I was 8, so 7 years.
How long have you been racing?
6 years, my first race was at Durhamtown on a KLX110
What is your favorite track?
Millcreek in Alabama. Tons of elevation, clay, and ruts!
What do you do for training?
I try to ride 2-3 times a week, and do short sprints to max my heart rate as well as longer motos for overall endurance. Then I have days strictly practicing sections like corners I’m struggling with. Off the bike my dad puts me through workouts at the gym to target pretty much the whole body like core, legs, upper body, and arms. But aside from the gym, cycling is what I do the most. We have a 12 mile and a 26 mile loop we do depending on how I’m recovering from a race weekend.
How often do you ride?
I try for 3 days a week.
What else do you like doing besides motocross?
I love to Mountain bike. We have awesome trails about 10 minutes away from my house, so my dad and I try to make it out there as often as possible. I also like to hang out with my friends and show them up in Go-karting!
Who is your favorite pro rider?
I’m a huge kevin windham fan. His style and personality made him the most down to earth moto guy on earth.
Who supports you? / Who are your sponsors?
First and foremost, my mom and dad. But the guy who has always been by my side and helped me from the beginning is Jason Beck at BecksTech Suspension and tuning. I also want to thank Preston Tyson, Loudmouth, Everrev, The Goerke Family and Kirk Layfield.
What are your future goals in motocross?
My short term goals are to win the Loretta Lynn’s national as well as the winter Olympics national. My long term goal is to race professional Motocross and Supercross and get paid to do what I love and travel all over the world to race!
What is an interesting fact about you that not many people know?
I love boxing. I watch all the old boxing matches from Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier to George Foreman and Sonny Liston.
What makes you pick motocross over other sports?
When I race it’s just me out there to get it done, I’m not counting on anyone else to win for me, and it makes you tough. There’s so much that goes into it and all the sacrifices to even get to the race so when you do well it is the best feeling. I’ve met some of my closest friends at the track, and whether you know everyone or not you all share the similarity of loving to ride motocross so it’s just a really good time.
Do you have a personal website, Facebook, or Twitter page you want to let everyone know about?
Yes, I have a Facebook page under Tristan Lane.
