The Sunshine state lived up to its name, providing riders with beautiful sunny skies for another action-packed race weekend in the 2014 FL/GA Spring Championship. Florida MOTO News visited Dade City Motocross to get the story on round #5 of this exciting series. This event again hosted the Florida Trail Riders motocross competition, adding to the moto excitement. Series sponsors Beck's Tech, Ruthless, and The Moto Stop were at the track to offer support for the riders, and cheer on the racing. The Dade City Motocross crew had prepared a perfectly groomed motocross track for the race. Always a fun, challenging, and technical track, the racing experience at Dade City is one that riders always seem to really enjoy. The racing started off with the 50cc 7-9 class, with Jordan Renfro (COB #107) taking the win in the first moto, followed by Moon Gerrits (KTM #495), Chase Matott (KTM #57), and Ryder Gwynn (KTM #5). The second moto, Moon Gerrits would find himself atop the podium after taking the checkers first. Jordan Renfro (COB #107) finished the day in second, and Chase Matott (KTM #57) in third.
Seeking to get the most racing experience from their race day, many riders sign up for more than one racing class. More seat time in a race environment, combined with consistent practice and a training program, frequently leads to very successful and skilled racers. The most successful riders of the day, winning every moto of two or more classes, were Alexander Frye (KTM #28), Seth Brown (KTM #417), and Jack Kinney (KTM #100). These guys have obviously found a program that is working for them!
Alexander Frye (KTM #28) put on an impressive performance, racing the 16-29, Open $, MX B, and Lites B classes. Frye would lead every class he raced, taking the win in all EIGHT motos!
The D-C Unlimitied class was the largest class of the day, with 19 riders battling for the win. Mark Zerrusen (HON #11) would be undefeated in the class, taking the win ahead of Christpher Tierney (KAW #268) and Derek Hopkins (KAW #264). Zerrusen also raced in the Litec C class, where he finished second overall. The winner of the Lites C class was Austin Stuart (YAM #127). Hunter Hawkins (KTM #434) finished third.
After six rounds of action, the 2014 FL/GA Spring Championship will come to a close on June 1, 2014 at Mesa Mx. With riders in some classes close in points, riders will have one last chance at Mesa Mx to try to earn enough points to be the series champion!
