The2017 FL/GA Spring Championship & 2017 Florida Motocross Series combined racing continued this past weekend at Motocross of Marion County (Reddick). Although many Florida tracks had recently received A LOT of rain, Motocross of Marion County was dry, and perfectly groomed for the weekend's event. Riders enjoyed a pleasant Saturday practice, and many commented on how pleased they were to see that the track was dry.
Racing on Sunday began with the 50cc OIL class, where Byrson Howell (YAM #679), Caleb Frazzini (YAM #30), and Evan Froess (YAM #781) would end up the top three by the end of the day. Racing continued on in good weather for first motos, but by second motos, the skies began to gray. The rain would soon arrive, and transform the racing surface into a slippery one. As the rain continued, slippery became just plain muddy. Track workers and riders tried to make the best of a wet situation, and as the skies began to clear some, it looked as though things would improve. Second motos continued on, but before long, the skies began to look ominous once again. Always putting the safety of the riders first, the folks at Motocross of Marion County carefully watched the weather radar, and made the wise decision to end racing for the day.
Racers will head next to Orlando Mx Park on July 2, 2017. The OMXP round will be the final round of the 2017 FL/GA Spring Championship, and with points close in many classes, this race to decide the championship should be intense. Riders competing in the 2017 Florida Motocross Series will continue their points battles at OMXP, and then move on to Waldo Motorsports for the next round of the Florida Motocross Series.
Florida MOTO News would also like to offer prayers and best wishes for rider Keith Oelerich (YAM #58), who was severely injured in a first moto crash.
